Many believe cryogenic technology is their one-way ticket to immortality. A short - in your perspective - sleep in ice where you get to wake up in the future's utopia, where your life can be extended indefinitely through advanced technology. However, this is not the reality of cryogenics, which instead have been proven to be best used for relatively short-term slumbers.

Cryogenics can preserve someone for, at most, five hundred or so years. That is the cryogenic shelf-life and even it is unproven. While skipping 500 years ahead sounds like a great idea, only a select genetic profile will allow for this long of a freeze to be endured. Instead, the actual shelf life of the average person is 150 to 200 years. A brief genetic screening can provide an even more accurate projected shelf life.

Cryogenics also prevent you from doing anything at all for however long you're frozen. Society NEEDS you. If everyone enters the deep freeze, there will be no utopian future for anybody. For this reason, cryogenics are utilized selectively for the good of all.
